Three weeks in late summer when Madeira's wine regions stop being scenery and become the show.

What to expect
This is not a wine fair, it is a harvest with an audience. The programme splits between Funchal, with tastings, exhibitions and ethnography, and the wine-growing areas, where the festival is the harvest itself. At the Living Harvest in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, visitors take part in picking and treading the grapes alongside the producing families, with folklore and food to accompany. Go to Estreito, do not stay only in Funchal. The difference between the two halves of the festival is the difference between watching and taking part.
The Concerts in the Vineyards sell out. They are in small spaces, among the vines, and that is what makes them special.
